MTBO/Trailquest events

24 09 2010

Last Sunday saw a good turnout for the first of Setantas MTBO events in the Wicklow area. Northern rider Bobby Smyth was third in the long course close behind Waterfords Paul Allen and Setanta rider Philip Brennan. Full results can be found here.

The second of two mountain bike orienteering events will take place this Sunday at Djouce Woods. Parking will be in the main (north) car park in Djouce Woods and the event will be signposted heading south out
of Enniskerry and from Kilmacanogue.

There will be a long and a short course similar to last week at Castletimon, with the same mixture of forest roads, single track and a bit of route choice thrown in to keep you interested. Course distance and climb will be about 30% longer than last week, so some of you may need to bring a packed lunch.
Entry fee is 10 euro for seniors and 8 euro for juniors. Electronic timing will be used.
Start time is 11.30 to 13.00. The usual cost of hiring an SI card, and charge if you lose it, applies.
Don’t forget to bring your bike helmet along with your bike; they’re compulsory.

Hopefully see some of you this Sunday,

MTBO events in Wicklow

13 09 2010

The next two weekends sees the possibilty to take part in some intense Irish MTB orienteering competition
The event planner Dave Weston says -

Mountain-bike orienteering makes a return to Leinster after a number of years
with Dublin based orienteering club Setanta putting on two events in consecutive weeks.
This coming Sunday 19th September, there is a middle distance event at Castletimon, County Wicklow. The
following Sunday (26th Sept) there will be a classic distance at Djouce Woods.

The event will be signposted off the N11 at the Beehive Pub junction, and the
start grid reference is T 302 878. The course length is circa 10k, and will be
exclusively forest road and path, with some good route choice options. There
will be a shorter option for the less energetic/enthusiastic. Pre-marked maps
and SPORTident timing will be used. You must have your own bike and bike helmets
are compulsory.

Start time between 11.30 and 13.00. 10 euro for Senior, 8 euro for Junior and much,
much more for those not bothered to join a club. 2 euro to hire an SI card and
30 if you lose it. Anyone who says the word “dibber” gets 30 minutes added to their time.

Drop me a text on (086)8150512 if you require any further information. Looking
forward to seeing some of you there.

It would be great to see a large contingent of Northern riders taking part in these two events, so get together with some mates and organise your transport down!
